A Letter from the Director

Welcome to Turn East Texas Blue. We have begun our journey and would love to have your assistance in accomplishing our mission of electing Democrats in East Texas.

What value do you offer that I share? Why should we elect Democrats? What do they believe? Why are you a Democrat? All of which are reasonable questions that deserve a thoughtful answer.

East Texans enjoy Friday night High School football, fishing, hunting, BBQ, church on Sunday morning and football on Sunday afternoon, family reunions, or a day at the lake. We relish watching our kids playing t-ball or feel the pride of seeing them graduate. These are the values that we all share, as well as a commitment to improve the community around us.

As Democrats, we have four basic principles all Texans share;

We believe that our children should have a better life than we have. Involvement and investment in our children’s education is a direct contribution to their future. As a wise man once stated, “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime”.

We believe that a worker is owed a fair day’s wage for a fair day’s work. As the Bible verse states, “The worker is worthy of his wages”.

We believe that all persons should be treated equally under the law, regardless of their race, religion or class. This statement is a core principle of the fabric of the foundation of our democracy itself. Our nation’s own Declaration of Independence states; “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness”.

We believe our parents have the right to live out their later years with proper healthcare, housing and an adequate retirement wage, in return for the years that they have contributed into our system. They have earned it.

These are the values, principles and ideals that we care for, fight for and defend. As Secretary Clinton reminded us in her concession speech, “Let us not grow weary in doing good, for in due season, we shall reap, if we do not lose heart”. Together everyone achieves more.
